The Witcher star Anya Chalotra has emphasised the impact playing Yennefer has had on her life, saying that the role ‘influenced her as a person’.
For years, Yennefer of Vengerberg has been one of the most cherished characters in The Witcher universe, which is why seeing her brought to life on screen alongside Geralt (Henry Cavill) would have been so exciting for those who have followed the tale through the books and video games.
She goes through an immense transformation in season one, with many years passing as she went from being a student to an accomplished sorceress, and season two is set to uncover new layers to her story.
While speaking to Metro.co.uk and other press, Anya stressed that the character ‘really has’ changed her life, explaining that they share various personality traits.
‘She’s just influenced me as a person. I mean, getting to play someone who… we have so many similar traits, which is what helped me get the part, but there are so many traits of her that I was uncomfortable kind of recognising in myself, and she’s helped me recognise them and changed my life,’ the actor said.
‘I feel more confident than I ever have done, that’s a mixture of going through Covid, having my perspective change on a lot of things, but yeah. The Witcher definitely has kind of enhanced my life in all the best ways.’
Despite still being a fairly young show, The Witcher has already been confirmed for season three.
There are still plenty of adventures across the Continent for the series to explore, hopefully with Yennefer and Ciri (Freya Allan) in tow along with Geralt.
Freya, who plays the young, magically-powered princess, said that while she wants to see the fantasy ‘through to the end’, she wants to make sure she doesn’t end up playing the character her ‘entire life’.
Anya, she said: ‘I obviously adore everyone involved in the series and I adore playing Ciri, I want to see it through to the end.’
‘I don’t know how many seasons I’m thinking exactly in my head. I want to finish the story, because obviously why wouldn’t I?’ she continued.
‘I want to see my character through to the end, but I’m not overly keen to spend my entire life on The Witcher, only because what excites me is getting to play other characters, and I think if I didn’t actually get to do that in between playing Ciri I think I’d probably go a bit crazy.’
The Witcher season 2 premieres on Friday December 17 on Netflix.
