The Witcher: Blood Origin fans baffled by ‘record-breaking’ low audience score for Netflix series

The Witcher prequel series Blood Origin has been flooded by a stream of negative reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, but some loyal fans have questioned why it’s been slammed so harshly.

Set 1,200 years before the events of The Witcher, Blood Origin follows the creation of the first Witcher, as well as the events leading to the Conjunction of the Spheres and the ancient Elven civilization before its demise.

It stars Michelle Yeoh and Lenny Henry, as well as Sophia Brown, Laurence O’Fuarain and Mirren Mack.

The first two seasons of the original have been critically acclaimed and are also some of the most watched series’ on the streaming service, however its follow-up has failed to follow with much magic.

Instead, The Witcher: Blood Origin has only drawn a dismal 10% audience score on the review site, based on over 30,000 reviews, a record-breaking low for Netflix, according to Forbes.

Most viewers are only handing out a half star review, with their comments anything but glowing.

The critics reviews also only sit at 35%.

However, some fans have defended the series and questioned why the reviews have been so bad.

‘Why does The Witcher: Blood Origin ONLY have 35% on Rotten Tomatoes? This is a GOOD series,’ one viewer wrote on Twitter.

Others accused the flood of negative reviews to be ‘racist’.

‘I read 30 one-star reviews of The Witcher: Blood Origin and skimmed more…they’re mostly copy-paste of the same,’ some-one else pointed out.

‘So basically, racists and misogynists didn’t like it. More reasons to watch it. Was it perfect? No. Was it fun? F*** yeah!.’

However their comments were few and far between when compared to the negative ones.

‘More lazy writing, bad acting and boring story. Hollywood is dying and becoming more irrelevant everyday,’ one person wrote on their Rotten Tomatoes review.

Another even called it ‘unwatchable’.

Many were disappointed in the fact they believed the series hadn’t paid tribute to the source material well enough.

‘As a huge Witcher fan I am really disappointed,’ one person wrote.

‘There’s no possible way to butcher the Witcher franchise more than they actually did,’ another added.

Some-one else said: ‘I’ve never seen a worse show than this thing. Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone’.

Although the critic reviews sit significantly higher, they are still only at 33%.

As the websites summary of the critic reviews reads: ‘A shallow excavation of ancient lore from Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy series, Blood Origin shares ancestral DNA with The Witcher but little of what makes the mothership series memorable’.

Taking to Twitter to comment on the dreadful scores, others wrote that they were a ‘disaster’ for the series and wider franchise.

In stark contrast, the first season of The Witcher has a 90% audience score.

However the second dropped significantly, with a 59% score.

This isn’t the only issue to hit the franchise recently, with fans enraged after Henry Cavill announced that he would be leaving the show and handing over the starring role of Geralt of Rivia after the third season.

The role will be filled by Liam Hemsworth.

While Henry didn’t explain the exact reason for walking away, fans believed it was because of creative differences due to writers straying from the source material.

One wrote: ‘You can’t really blame the man since the Netflix writers’ room is doing their hardest at butchering the amazing source material’.
