An intriguing teaser and new pictures have been released for The Walking Dead ahead of the launch of six bonus episodes.
Between October 2019 and October 2020, 16 episodes for the show’s tenth season were released.
In November last year, it was confirmed that six more episodes would be added to the roster after production was put on hold as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
With less than two months to go until fans of the post-apocalyptic series can pick the story back up where it left off, new stills have been unveiled of stars including Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan, his on-and-off-screen wife Hilarie Burton as Lucille and Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon, pointing a crossbow through an open doorway.
In another picture, Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan) can be seen crouching beside a tree trunk, a determined expression on her face as she carries a bow and arrows.
A teaser has also been released by the programme, featuring several characters leaving cryptic messages in voiceovers.
‘I’m not gonna stop until I find out,’ Daryl can be heard saying.
‘We need to get our heads on straight,’ Maggie adds.
In the official synopsis for the new episodes, it states that the survivors are ‘trying to pick themselves up by their bootstraps following the destruction the Whisperers left in their wake’.
‘The years of struggle weigh upon them as past traumas surface, exposing their more vulnerable sides,’ it states.
‘As they question the state of humanity, the state of their collective community, and the states of their minds, will they find the inner strength to persevere with their lives, friendships, and group intact?’
Earlier this week, The Walking Dead fans expressed concern after a picture released for the bonus episodes appeared to show Maggie with a menacing figure behind her.
Maggie, who is returning to the show following her season nine exit, is shown in a still holding a bow and arrow while what looks like a cloaked individual stands out of her view.
The Walking Dead is due to come to an end with its eleventh season, with a Daryl spin-off confirmed to be in the works.
New episodes of The Walking Dead are due to premiere on March 1 on FOX in the UK.
