Spoilers for The Traitors Australia are coming up.
If you’ve been trying for months to find something to watch on TV to fill the void left by The Traitors, you don’t have to worry anymore. The Australian version is now on TV.
Last year, people couldn’t stop talking about the reality show because it was so addicting. Now, the BBC has given us access to the first 12 episodes of the Australian spin-off, which is sure to be a big hit.
Even though the game is the same, the changes and turns are all new. The group is trying to both build up the prize pool and get rid of people who could keep them from taking any of it home.
People who have watched the whole series in one sitting have said what they thought, and it seems like they were pretty pleased.
One fan joked on social media that they were “tired,” while another said it was “completely off the rails.”
Someone else said they watched it all in just two days and now “don’t know what to do with themselves.”
If you thought things couldn’t get any crazier than when Amanda said she would roar like the Welsh dragon if Wilf crossed her or when Kieran gave his “parting gift” that helped find out who was the last man standing, you were wrong.
Here are some of the craziest things that happened during the series as our Aussie friends tried to get to the end and win the prize money.
The absolutely genius casting
Before the game even started, it was clear that the cast was going to meet the magic of the British version in terms of drama and game play.
There were 24 contestants, and many of them had lives that were anything but ordinary.
Many people, like MK, 59, a former cop who is now a criminal lawyer, and Olivia, 47, a forensic analyst, decided to hide what they did from 9 to 5 so they wouldn’t look suspicious.
That group included Nigel, who is 50 years old and has the unfortunate title of being the Australian hostage who has been held the longest.
He used to be a photographer. In 2008, he and another writer were taken hostage by Islamist rebels in Somalia and held for 460 days. He now works as a hostage negotiator.
But psychic Chloe, who is 30 years old, may have been the best choice for a role.
Chloe has been honest about her psychic skills from the start. At first, they were questioned, but they soon proved to be pretty damn accurate.
Spirits sending a message
In a completely unexpected turn of events, Chloe chose a few shows in to lay all her cards on the table and name the four people she thought were Traitors. She did this with a level of accuracy that was impressive.
During her banishment, she was told to name people she thought had been turned. She named Teresa, Kash, Angus, and Marielle, and the last two were right.
But before her idea could be tried, Chloe suddenly left the competition, leaving the rest of the group to decide if they believed what she said or not.
The mysterious witness
After watching the whole series, I don’t think anyone knows more about what happened because of the arguments and talks about whether or not a witness heard Jack say to Olivia that he was a traitor.
We only know that it was a huge waste of time because he was as loyal as they come.
But that didn’t come out until after he was kicked off the show.
Matt melts down trying to defend himself
Matt, a 32-year-old real estate agent, started the game by staying mostly out of sight. When people started to pay attention to him, it’s safe to say he started to freak out.
He was so desperate to clear his name that he went around trying to convince people that their votes weren’t wasted on him. But his behaviour just made people mad, and many said the chaos was making it hard for them to find “traitors.”
Matt was sent away in the end, no matter what he did.
Marielle putting Wilf’s backstabbing to shame
If you thought Wilf turning on other Traitors was crazy, Marielle doing whatever it took to win was even crazier.
The 24-year-old law student made it clear right away that she wasn’t there to mess around. At the beginning, she told the reporters that she had turned in friends who were cheating on their college tests.
When she could tell that people were starting to pay attention to her, she acted quickly and worked with the Faithful to kill fellow traitor Angus. Then she killed Claire, who at least knew that her time was up.
Marielle said when she decided to vote for Angus that she thought it was time to “cut him free” because his mistakes could put her in danger.
Oh, and she seemed to have “no loyalty” to him at all.
But after Alex joined the gang late in the game, Marielle’s apprentice pulled up the final gameplay and did to her exactly what she had done to the other two.
‘I just got totally blindsided. I trusted Alex but the one I recruited and gave the keys to the tower turned on me…she’s deadly,’ she said of the eventual winner.
The contestants absolute obsession with host Rodger Corser
Even though Claudia Winkleman is the ultimate beauty in this case, the fact that the star of the Australian show was the well-known actor Rodger Corser was never lost on those who got to spend time with him.
The 50-year-old has been a regular on Australian TV sets for the past 20 years, appearing in shows like the crime miniseries Underbelly, the police drama Rush, and the medical series Doctor Doctor.
Contestants joked with each other that Rodger was sending them love letters when he sent them letters during the competition. When Teresa left, she decided to take her shot and asked the host to just leave with her.
Rodger’s smooth style also caught the attention of the group, who had to wear bright red tracksuits when the host showed up in suits and even got dressed up to row in a lake at one point.
The epic final gameplay
Craig said it best when he discovered he was in the final three with a Traitor after the final banishment and the choice to get rid of Lewis, who turned out to be a Faithful.
“Oh crap!” he said as his face went down.
After another banishment, Kate was sent home because she and Alex had turned on each other. This left just two people left.
Even though Alex deserved to win, it broke my heart to see her tell her longtime friend Craig that she had tricked him and was keeping all the money.
During the game, the social media planner and model said she planned to use the prize money to pay for IVF treatment for her and her boyfriend.
Even though it was for a good cause, it was hard not to cry when a Traitor won. This was especially true after Aaron Evans, Meryl Williams, and Hannah Byczkowski won £101,050 after working together to get rid of Wilf, the last Traitor left in the game.
Even though this season is over, fans of The Traitors can look forward to more. A second British season has already been announced, and season 2 of the Australian version will have a mix of regular people and celebs.
The Traitors is streaming on BBC iPlayer.
