The Split returns next month as fans will catch up with the most dramatic divorce lawyers in the city amid new challenges for the Defoe family – here’s how you can watch all the action unfold.
The British legal drama, written and created by Abi Morgan, has been a huge hit with viewers, after debuting in 2018.
It follows the lives of the Defoe family, who all work in divorce law for the family firm, with Hannah’s (Nicola Walker) firm merged with her mother Ruth’s (Deborah Findlay) at the start of season two.
It also follows Hannah’s tricky love life, sister Nina’s (Annabel Scholey) addiction and unexpected pregnancy and youngest sibling Rose’s (Fiona Button) struggle to get pregnant after a heartbreaking miscarriage.
In season three, fans will see the loose ends all tied up as the series comes to an end.
But here’s everything you need to know about how to watch and who is in the cast.
What is the release date for The Split season 3 and how can you watch?
The Split confirmed its release date earlier this week, with the first episode shown on April 4.
If you can’t wait for the drama each week, you’ll be able to watch the series as a boxset on BBC iPlayer.
All episodes will also be available on the streaming service from April 4.
Who is in the cast?
Nicola Walker as Hannah Stern
One of the queens of British drama Nicola is back as Hannah, who fans have seen shift between her love for husband Nathan and old flame Christie for the past two seasons.
However, the season two finale saw Hannah and Nathan decide to divorce after her affair with Christie was discovered.
Nicola has been a firm fixture on our screens in recent years, having starred as DCI Cassie Stuart in Unforgotten, Gillian in Last Tango in Halifax alongside Sarah Lancashire, as well as having a leading role in 2018’s Collateral.
Fans may also remember she starred as Ruth Evershed in Spooks between 2003 and 2011.
Stephen Mangan as Nathan Stern
Stephen plays Hannah’s husband Nathan, who has always known her heart doesn’t lie solely with him.
He was seen packing his bags at the end of last season as the lawyers prepare to sort through their own divorce settlement in season three.
The Split is one of Stephen’s more serious roles, with the star often known for comedic performances in shows such as Green Wing and Episodes.
He’s also hosted Have I Got News For You and appeared on 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown, as well as playing actual Postman Pat in Postman Pat: The Movie back in 2014.
Barry Atsma as Christie Carmichael
Barry plays charming Christie, who is desperate to get his happiness at last with Hannah, years after their original romance failed.
He also appeared to be heading over to a rival firm after Hannah’s marriage fell apart at the end of season two.
The Dutch actor, who was born in Bromley, London, became known in the Netherlands through his role in the TV series Rozengeur & Wodka Lime.
He’s appeared as Moreno in films The Hitman’s Bodyguard, as well as follow-up movie, Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard alongside Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson.
Annabel Scholey as Nina Defoe
Annabel plays the messiest sister in the form of Nina, who is seen struggling with alcohol addiction as well as a string of unsuccessful relationships.
She ends up falling pregnant unexpectedly with her ex-boyfriend Rex’s (Matthew Baynton) baby, as she begins to fall for new boss Tyler (Damien Molony) – who shared a shock kiss last season.
She had a recurring role of Lauren Drake in BBC Three’s hit series Being Human back in 2009.
The actress has since appeared in BBC drama The Salisbury Poisonings back in 2020, where she played Sarah Bailey, and starred in an episode of Doctor Who last year as Claire Brown.
Fiona Button as Rose Defoe
Fiona plays Rose, the youngest of the formidable Defoe sisters – and the only one not working as a high-flying lawyer.
Instead, she works as a childminder but is left heartbroken when she suffers a miscarriage amid her wish to become a mum.
From 2010 to 2012 she played Tess Roberts in two series of Lip Service. From 2014 to 2016 she played Jennifer Chambers in the first two seasons of Grantchester.
Deborah Findlay as Ruth Defoe
Scottish actress Deborah plays the matriarch of the family and while she could be enjoying retirement, shows no sign of slowing down just yet.
She has a heap of theatre, TV and radio credits, having portrayed Home Secretary Denise Riley in Torchwood’s 2009 third series Children of Earth.
She was featured in separate episodes as agent Mary Carter in October 2003 and lawyer Gemma King in January 2010 of the BBC1 series Silent Witness.
Her radio credits include Sally in Closed to Visitors by Dawn Lowe-Watson on BBC Radio 4 in 1992 and Hermione Pink in the BBC Radio 4 Drama The Ferryhill Philosophers, starting in 2015.
Damien Molony and Chukwudi Iwuji play newlyweds Tyler Donaghue and Alex Hale, whilst Rudi Dharmalingam is expected to return as Rose’s husband James.
There’s also a high profile new addition to the cast, as Lara Pulver (Irene Adler in Sherlock) will play Kate.
She’s been labelled ‘a leading child psychologist whose arrival adds a whole new layer of complexity to Morgan’s multi-layered examination of divorce and modern marriage…’
The Split seasons 1-2 can be streamed now on BBC iPlayer and season 3 will be released on April 4.
