The Masked Singer’s Aston Merrygold is plotting to collaborate with Ne-Yo after unwittingly starring alongside him in the ITV talent show.
The JLS star was left stunned last Saturday when he realised he had been standing next to one of his icons for weeks, with strict secrecy rules meaning they never saw each other backstage.
He even performed Ne-Yo track Closer on the series as Robin, oblivious that the performer was waiting in the wings dressed as Badger.
They both eventually lost out to Joss Stone in the finale, who was dressed as Sausage.
But now their identities have been revealed, Aston is hopeful that the music producer could provide a vital hand in his solo career.
Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk, Aston told us: ‘I’m definitely, definitely going to be making contact. Just to me, he’s a legend. I’ve been lucky enough to be able to share the stage [with him]. It can’t end there.’
‘I’m very hopeful [to work with Ne-Yo],’ he added. ‘I’ve sung the man’s song, right? Let’s go. Let’s redo that song, that’ll do.’
The singer’s brush with the icon came after a tricky year for Aston and his family, with numerous major milestones screeching to a halt as a result of the pandemic, including his wedding to fiancée Sarah Richards and a JLS reunion tour.
On top of that, Aston and Sarah have been adjusting to life as parents to two sons, with baby Macaulay being born in June last year, and three-year-old Grayson starting school.
As a result, he’s now fronting the Sweet Screams campaign with Hotels.com, where pillows are being sent out to parents who need somewhere to vent their anger.
However, with lockdown lifting, 2021 is looking up and Aston is determined to get back on the road with the JLS boys.
While the Beat Again foursome are meant to be hitting the road in June, after rescheduling last year’s dates, he’s ruled out any new music.
‘We’re back for a tour. Music’s my own thing, to be honest,’ he explained. ‘My music is definitely the focus.
‘I mean, obviously never say never as JLS, but at the same time it’s a bit like international duty as a footballer.
‘If you’re a footballer that’s your international duty and then your club football is everyone’s kind of solo endeavours.’
Hotels.com partners with Aston Merrygold to rehome unused hotel pillows for pandemic parents to scream into to take the stress out of this half term. To enter the draw, head to Hotels.com UK’s Twitter page @hotelsdotcomuk from midday on Tuesday 16th February 2021 until midday on Friday 19th February 2021.
