MTV has cancelled The Hills: New Beginnings, confirming the reality show will not be returning for season 3.
The revival series followed a number of friends from the original programme, which aired from 2006 to 2010, and documented their relationships and business trials and tribulations.
Brody Jenner, Heidi Montag, Specncer Pratt and Audrina Patridge were among those who returned for the spin-off, alongside the likes of Stephanie Pratt and Kaitlynn Carter Jenner.
According to TMZ, there are a ‘few reasons’ which led to the programme’s end, including claims that producers recently explored the thought of bringing younger cast members into the fold to diversify things.
The publication alleges several of the original stars were not on board.
It also reports that some of the originals had ‘major issues’ with the reboot, believing it wasn’t the show ‘MTV promised them’ and they felt ‘forced with fake storylines and confessionals’.
Insiders told TMZ that some of them allegedly ‘refused to continue to play along, which ultimately led to the cancelation.’
None of the cast have spoken out about the show’s cancellation at the time of writing.
The Hills: New Beginnings season two aired last summer after a string of delays due to the Covid pandemic.
Production began in early 2020, with only a few episodes completed before being halted in March.
The plan was to resume mid-late summer, with MTV at one point even considering filming in a quarantine bubble.
Ultimately, the network chose against this and normal production resumed in November 2020 with strict safety protocols in place after California began to loosen its restrictions.
