I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here campmates, Josie Gibson and Nella Rose aren’t wearing red socks to make a dramatic fashion statement; the truth is considerably grimmer.

They wear uniform socks in addition to their signature red shorts or pants, blue top, and khaki shirt. The hue, which has been used since the show’s inception, is chosen to hide any unintentional blood leaking through.

Bob McCarron, the show’s former on-site medic, previously stated that while campmates are likely to get bitten by a variety of creepy crawlies, such as leeches, it prevents viewers from having to avert their eyes if they have a blood phobia.

We have to appreciate ITV for making this choice, since while we enjoy watching celebs slum it in the jungle, we don’t like seeing medical concerns through their socks.

Rochelle Humes, whose husband Marvin Humes is presently competing on the show, has spilled some more sock secrets. Who knew Gretchen Wieners’ socks carried as many secrets as her hair?

She revealed on This Morning that Marvin was only permitted to bring one pair of socks, so celebrities had to wash them all the time. They are also limited to three pairs of pants.

It’s no surprise they get bitten if their feet are naked while the socks are drying! It’s socks  to be them. That’s one way to sock it to them.*Insert your own sock pun here.

The headpiece is an important feature of the I’m A Celebrity costume. The Akubra Snowy River Hat, to use its official name, is available for purchase from Hats by the Hundred, who claim to supply the show.

If you want to pretend to compete in the reality programme in your own backyard, you can get the gear for £139.

For a jungle exercise, Marvin, 38, and Fred Siriex decided to retain their socks on but take off their caps and shirts.

The couple transformed the Australian desert into The Gym Group, performing a sequence of squats and pumping their improvised dumbells – rocks. They don’t have to uncomfortably loiter by the occupied leg press machine in the woods.

Viewers were astounded by their excellent abs and Fred’s ability to maintain his shape at the age of 51. In our opinion, he’s still young, so this comes as no surprise.

I’m A Celebrity continues on ITV and ITVX tomorrow at 9pm.
