Former Strictly Come Dancing pro Kevin Clifton will be pushing himself to the limit in ITV’s The Games – and the star revealed that girlfriend Stacey Dooley is looking forward to one bit in particular.
The reality sports game show involves 12 celebrities being taken out of ‘their comfort zones’ as they are coached and trained in different areas of sport at the athletics arena, the swimming pool, and the gymnasium.
Holly Willoughby and Freddie Flintoff will be fronting the series, with professional footballer turned presenter Alex Scott reporting from the sidelines and Chris Kamara providing commentary.
Dancer Kevin, 39, is no stranger to live TV after appearing on BBC’s Strictly and lifting the coveted glitterball with presenter Stacey in 2018.
With The Games making its live debut on Monday May 9, Kevin revealed that Stacey showed her support for him in a rather unique way.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk and other press, he said: ‘She thinks it’s absolutely hilarious that I’m doing this.
‘She keeps saying to me, “don’t worry if you come last. It doesn’t matter, it’s just good that you’re doing it.”
‘And I’m like “Stacey, I never said I was going to come last.”‘
He added: ‘She also said “I don’t care where you come in the results, I’m just dead at the part when you’re about to go swimming, and the camera is going to pan past you in your speedos.”
‘She finds that whole thing hilarious.’
Although Kevin departed Strictly Come Dancing in 2020, his big concern over The Games is ‘showing off’ in front of the live crowd.
‘I’m so used to thinking “let’s entertain everyone,”‘ he enthused.
‘It’ll egg me on and I’m worried that my technique will go out the window because I’ll be like “yeah let’s go!”‘
Singer Max George, reality star Olivia Attwood, soap actor Colson Smith and musician Wes Nelson will be participating in the live event.
Also completing the line-up is songwriter Chelcee Grimes, Harry Potter actor Josh Herdman, influencer Phoenix Brown, model Christine McGuiness, newsreader Lucrezia Millarini, Emmerdale actor Rebecca Sarker and actor Ryan Thomas.
The Games premieres on Monday May 9 at 9pm on ITV.
