Filming for The Crown season 5 has been cut short after several members of the crew tested positive for Covid-19, with the decision made to ensure the ‘safety’ of everyone on set.
This week, the UK recorded its highest number of new Covid cases in one day, with numbers reaching 88,000, the second day in a row that the record was broken.
Amid continued concern over the Omicron variant, which Health Secretary Sajid David described as ‘the biggest current threat to global public health’, many are questioning how various businesses will continue to run throughout the festive period.
Production for the fifth season of Netflix series The Crown, which will star Imelda Staunton, Elizabeth Debicki and Dominic West, came to an end a day earlier than planned after a few positive cases among the team.
In a statement sent to Metro.co.uk, a spokesperson for The Crown said: ‘The Crown finished filming one day earlier than planned for the Christmas break following a few positive cases within the team, thus ensuring others’ safety and so that everyone on production can enjoy a festive break with their loved ones.’
Filming is due to recommence in the new year after the Christmas break.
The upcoming episodes will follow the royal family into the 1990s, with new actors taking over the roles previously played by stars including Olivia Colman, Emma Corrin and Josh O’Connor.
The historical drama will finish with its sixth season, which will close with scenes set in the 21st century.
It was recently claimed that the Duke of Cambridge had expressed his disappointment over Netflix’s decision to depict his mother Princess Diana’s controversial Panorama interview with Martin Bashir.
It’s been reported that in the scene, actor Richard Cordery, who portrays the then-chairman of the BBC’s board of governors Marmaduke Hussey, gets out of a car and walks into the building.
We understand permission was given for the cast to walk through the BBC’s door and out again.
In May this year, an inquiry found that Bashir used ‘deceitful behaviour’ to secure the interview with the late Princess of Wales.
This week, it emerged that Eton College, the school that both Prince William and Prince Harry attended, refused entry for Netflix to film scenes for The Crown.
