The Big Breakfast will not return in 2023 due to Channel 4 budget constraints.
The classic 1990s favourite, which was initially presented by Denise Van Outen and Johnny Vaughan, returned for a one-off special in 2021 as part of the Black to Front initiative before fans demanded a permanent comeback.
The revised programme was headed by AJ Odudu and Mo Gilligan for four episodes last summer, but the network has already stated that there will be no further episodes this summer.
A spokesperson said: ‘Although there are no shows planned for this year The Big Breakfast may well return in the future.’
Despite audiences’ joy at seeing it return, the remake was only commissioned for four episodes last summer, with no solid plans for more.
After learning that The Big Narstie programme would not return for a sixth season, comedian Mo will be devastated.
A Channel 4 spokesperson recently said: ‘The decision not to recommission a sixth series of The Big Narstie Show is not part of our response to challenges in the advertising market.
‘We are immensely proud of the five series we have made of this innovative Bafta-winning show but we have to look carefully at what we commission each year to make sure we continue to innovate and offer viewers a varied range of programming.
‘We look forward to working with Dice, Expectation and Big Narstie on other projects in the future.’
Meanwhile, AJ is still reeling from the Big Breakfast news, as it was announced that The Big Blow Out is one of the latest shows to be cancelled, after the termination of reality shows Four Weddings and Rescue: Extreme Medics.
A spokesperson said: ‘The Big Blow Out gave us many spectacular hair creations and we grew to love our passionate prodigies, but like all broadcasters we often have to make the difficult decision to stop making some programmes in order to make new ones.’
However, the network has denied allegations that Naked Attraction was also on the chopping block, instead revealing ten new episodes due to run in 2024.
A spokesperson for the network said: ‘Naked Attraction has not been decommissioned and a new series will return to Channel 4 next year.
‘Channel 4 is in robust health, however, like all commercial broadcasters we’re taking some precautionary measures, such as rephrasing some content and production, in response to a downturn in the ad market.
‘The vast majority of our shows have not been affected.’
