The Big Bang Theory fans, it’s time to get excited as another spin-off is in the works.
The original comedy chronicled the lives of physicists Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) and Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki), as well as Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and friends Howard Wolowitz (Simon Helberg) and Raj Koothrappali (Kunal Nayyar).
It debuted in 2007 and lasted 12 seasons before ending in 2019, with the spin-off series Young Sheldon presently airing.
According to Variety, co-creator Chuck Lorre has revealed that another programme in the Big Bang world is in the early stages of development.
The project is expected to include a mainly fresh cast in hour-long episodes, with appearances from some recognisable characters.
There are no other specifics about the characters, narrative, or time period, but the site says that it will be available on Max, a new platform that combines HBO Max and Discovery+.
While we wait for more information, fans on Reddit have offered their thoughts for what the spin-off may include, with many speculating that the focus would be on their children.
Howard and Bernadette (Melissa Raunch) had daughter Halley and son Neil before the conclusion of the show, while Leonard and Penny revealed they were expecting their first child in the season 12 finale.
Sheldon and Amy (Mayim Bialik) had a kid called Leonard at some time, which was revealed in Young Sheldon, with additional children hinted at in a later episode.
When discussing the spin-off on Reddit, some fans expressed their want to see their children interact with one another.
‘I would bet my house on it being about all their kids being friends and them getting into wacky nerdy parent sitcom scenarios,’ one said.
Another agreed: ‘I want a spin off the Big Bang theory cast with their children as teenagers like that that would be a great storyline like time jump a little later into the future but I still want the cast appear in the episodes ever once in a while I think it’s a great idea personally [sic].’
‘Possibly about their kids as teenagers maybe,’ a Reddit user theorized.
‘We have a prequel, now maybe we get a sequel, with their kids (liked others have said),’ a fan wrote, adding: ‘If we get another “Young …” then I want Young Leonard because I’m so curious about what his mom actually did to him.’
Others leapt on the ‘young Leonard’ hypothesis, pushing for Christine Baranski to reprise her role as his mother.
While some quipped that we would witness a ‘Old Sheldon’.
A fan wondered if we’d see more of comic book store owner Stuart Bloom (Kevin Sussman), writing, ‘My immediate thought was a show featuring Stuart set in his comic book store, engaging with folks going in and out (old gang sometimes turning up).’
A commenter also enthused: ‘I want it to be Stewart and Denise running the comic store and the guys stop by occasionally.’
