The Apprentice star Thomas Skinner claimed that before the contestants gathered to meet Lord Alan Sugar, producers asked them to line themselves up from ‘ugliest to prettiest’.
The hit BBC show, which returned to screen on January 6 following a two-year hiatus, follows a group of eager candidates fighting to get a £250,000 investment from the business mogul.
While we thought the series tested the hopefuls on their leadership and entrepreneurial skills, Skinner who appeared on the programme in 2019, alleged that their physical appearance also played a crucial role before filming.
Speaking to The Daily Star, he said: ‘Before you go on the show you go through the interview stages and you’ve got people from all over – from London, from Ireland, from Manchester, and you’re in this room and they told us to line up from ugliest to prettiest.
‘And you don’t know who these people are and you’ve got people arguing about who’s the prettiest,’ he added.
Skinner, who now runs a mattress company, also shared how competitive some people got over the ‘carnage’ instruction.
‘It’s carnage but there were people arguing saying “I’m much better looking,”‘ he said.
The brand-new season is now underway and so far the girls have gone for the win on two separate tasks.
However, it was announced on Tuesday that aspiring businesswoman Shama Amin quit the show due to health reasons.
Her exit will be addressed in Thursday’s episode, where she tells Lord Sugar and his associates Karren Brady and Tim Campbell that she will be leaving the process due to her rheumatoid arthritis, a long-term condition that causes pain, swelling and stiffness in the joints.
The next episode of the show will see the teams tasked with making non-alcoholic drinks.
The Apprentice airs every Thursday at 9:00pm on BBC One.
