The Apprentice is returned for another year, which means more arrogant applicants, business disasters, and Lord Alan Sugar’s violent boardroom takedowns.

The first peek of the 2024 series promises a thrilling trip… Especially because the first episode has one of the ‘worst’ disasters ever seen on the show.

For the premiere of season 18, Lord Sugar’s aides Baroness Karren Brady and Tim Campbell MBE monitored the men’s and women’s teams as they planned corporate away days for two firms in the Scottish Highlands.

While one half of each team led their visitors on hazardous activities such as diving into a treacherous canyon and abseiling down a cliff, the other half worked in the kitchens, preparing meals for when they returned.

The women’s team prepared delicious fishcakes for their guests. However, disaster struck when Noor Bouziane failed to understand that she had covered the fishcakes in the crumble intended for their desserts rather than breadcrumbs.

Despite realising their mistake, they opted to serve the food anyhow. and their entrees could quickly see that things had gone horribly wrong.

However, it was not the end of their suffering.

When the time came to get their desserts prepped and ready, it took the female candidates an extremely long amount of time to realise that they had been trying to cook them in a microwave, instead of the oven.

So, the desserts ended up with burnt crumble on the top, but raw insides. The least appetising combination imaginable.

While the male contestants also experienced their fair share of mishaps in the kitchen, Karren didn’t mince her words when describing the women’s blunders to Lord Sugar when they were all back in the boardroom after the task.

‘I’ll cut to the chase shall I?’ Karren began.

‘It was chaos in the kitchen, breadcrumbs mixed up with crumble which was put onto the fishcake, dessert undercooked.

‘Look, in this process we’ve seen a lot of bad food. This was probably the worst food I’ve ever seen.’

On the men’s side, the culinary crew had to serve cold toads-in-holes when the excursion team arrived 45 minutes late for their supper.

Not only that, but contestant Oliver Medford, despite having no culinary expertise, failed to add flour to the brownie mix.

Sub-team leader Phil Turner, who has previously won the Supreme Pie Champion title, was also had to explain the difference between a tablespoon and a teaspoon in the recipe.

We just have one question after hearing what the first episode has to offer: would you rather eat a crumble-coated fishcake or a chilly toad-in-the-hole?

We didn’t think so…

The Apprentice launches on Thursday February 1 at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
