Susanna Reid didn’t hesitate to name Piers Morgan to commemorate a significant milestone, despite his previous jab at her.
Today, the Good Morning Britain host commemorated two decades of breakfast TV hosting by paying tribute to some of the people who have played crucial roles in her career.
Susanna paid tribute to the late Bill Turnbull, who died last year at the age of 66 after being diagnosed with prostate cancer, and also mentioned her former co-host Piers.
After his departure from GMB, the TalkTV host was reportedly ‘let down’ by Susanna when he failed to apologise for provocative statements he made about Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.
Earlier this month, someone tweeted Piers, 57, to ask: ‘Piers were you disappointed when none of your colleagues didn’t present the day after you left GMB?’ to which he replied: ‘Would have been nice to see the same solidarity.’
It was later claimed by an insider that the broadcaster felt that ‘not just the TV executives should have been more supportive, but his co-hosts – including Susanna – should have been, too’, as they added to OK!: ‘He felt let down.’
Speaking on Wednesday’s GMB, Susanna, 52, said: ‘A huge thank you to Piers Morgan of this parish, five years alongside him.
‘He made me bolder, more argumentative, more difficult I think, more probing, asking the tricky questions and going into battle every morning.’
She continued: ‘Slightly different since then but definitely a big thank you to everyone I’ve presented with over 20 years. Getting up at 3.45 and I’m still here.’
The host paid tribute to Bill, adding it was a “shame” he couldn’t celebrate with him.
‘I’d love to be able to text him this morning and talk to him about that. He was absolutely brilliant, but luckily I am surrounded by other brilliant people and so thank you very much for being with me on the journey,’ she said.
Susanna also thanked individuals such as Ben Shephard, Charlotte Hawkins, and Sean Fletcher, with whom she works on the ITV show.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
