Susanna Reid was shocked to learn that Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie were not nominated for big Oscars for Barbie.
Greta, 40, was not nominated for Best Director but was honoured alongside her husband Noah Baumbach for Best Adapted Screenplay, while Margot, 33, was not nominated for Best Actress but was recognised for Best Picture as producer.
Ryan Gosling, who plays Ken, was nominated for Best Supporting Actor and later blasted Greta and Margot’s rejections, calling them as ‘the two individuals most responsible for this history-making, worldwide renowned picture.’
The outcry over the Academy Awards continued on today’s Good Morning Britain, when Susanna, 53, and her co-host Ed Balls, 56, addressed the Barbie scandal.
Susanna exclaimed ‘down with the patriarchy’ as they addressed Ryan, 43, backing his co-stars and GMB guest John Cena, who played Merman Ken in Barbie, while Ed equated the Academy’s actions to scoring a ‘own goal.’
Susanna began: ‘Very excited about John Cena coming in of course with Ryan Gosling making these comments about there is no Ken without Barbie and there is no Margot Robbie in the Oscar nominations for Best Actress even though he gets a nomination.’
Jumping in, Ed continued: ‘Or Greta Gerwig, the director. The thing that I find so odd is that Barbie is clearly a feminist film.’
‘Down with the patriarchy!’ Susanna declared. ‘Give the women the spotlight!’
Ed added: ‘And then it turns out these people who give out the Oscar nominations…
‘Give the men the spotlight!’ Susanna interjected.
Ed continued: ‘And they don’t give it to the lead woman whose Barbie or the director. It’s like a footballer turning around and kicking the ball in his own goal.
‘It’s like the biggest own goal you could ever imagine. Baffling.’
Ryan, 43, expressed his disappointment with Greta and Margot not being nominated in their respective categories in a statement issued with US reporters following his nomination, calling it a “understatement.”
‘Against all odds with nothing but a couple of soulless, scantily clad, and thankfully crotchless dolls, they made us laugh, they broke our hearts, they pushed the culture and they made history.
‘Their work should be recognised along with the other very deserving nominees,’ he added.

‘No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit and genius.’
Saltburn, despite sparking TikTok mania, spawning NSFW tattoos, and relaunching a British 00s music icon’s career, received no Oscar nominations.
