Susanna Reid burst out laughing on Good Morning Britain after Chris Kamara pretended to forget her name.
The 65-year-old commentator made a brief appearance on Tuesday’s show, when he offered an update on his health after being diagnosed with apraxia of speech in 2020 and seeking therapy for it.
Apraxia of speech is a motor speech condition that disrupts the brain circuits involved in organising the sequence of motions required for speech production.
Chris made the unintentional gaffe when speaking with entertainment writer Richard Arnold at the National Film Awards, where he stated that he’s been receiving experimental treatment.
‘It’s working, it’s been incredible,’ he said. ‘By the way the treatment is going, hopefully, I’ll be back by Christmas.’
However, Chris seemed to forget Susanna’s name when Richard asked him if he’d like to appear on Good Morning Britain.
‘Oh, I’d love to,’ he replied. ‘Alongside Lorraine or Hannah, er Hannah? Susanna.’
Quickly fixing his mistake, Chris added: ‘She’ll kill me as well, Ed Balls is on there for God’s sake!’
It’s fair to say that Susanna was tickled by the blunder though, as she reacted: ‘Hannah?! I beg your pardon!’
Chipping in, Richard quipped: ‘Hannah sounds too pure for pink!’
Chris revealed in December that he struggled to accept his apraxia diagnosis.
‘We take for granted when we speak, it’s natural, but the message from (my) brain somehow gets confused and the words come out wrong, or they come out slow, or they don’t come out at all,’ he said.
‘My voice was my life so that was hard…to accept. That’s why I kept it quiet, I thought there’s no way I can tell anybody.’
Chris was awarded an MBE by the Prince of Wales in March for his contributions to Association Football, anti-racism, and philanthropy.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am o ITV.
