Succession viewers were left reeling when episode four of the fourth and final season revealed Logan Roy’s ultimate desires.
Logan, the family patriarch and the closest thing Succession has to an antagonist, died abruptly last week in episode three, dubbed Connor’s Wedding.
Logan’s unexpected death not only put a vital takeover transaction in jeopardy, but it also cast severe question on the survival of his firm, Waystar Royco.
After more than three seasons of speculation about who would follow Logan as CEO of the corporation, Honeymoon States, episode four, finally revealed all.
Did it, or didn’t it? Viewers were first convinced that Logan had picked his son Kendall as the new leader despite their disagreements and personal troubles.
While some fans believe Kendall’s name was underlined in Logan’s wishes, many feel it was struck out, eliminating him as heir.
It’s a game that even Succession’s official Twitter account has decided to play, teasing viewers with a question of its own: ‘Underlined or crossed out?’
One fan demanded to see the full list of Logan’s wishes: ‘Post the entire piece of paper. We need something to hold us over until next week.’
‘As a teacher, article editor, and graffiti writer who has crossed out and underlined many words on both paper and walls: it is underlined,’ said one expert.
Fans on the opposing side of the discussion believe Logan made a last-minute decision to prevent Kendall from replacing him.
One superfan looked back through the series to find evidence: ‘This is the same letter Logan looked at before he went into the office in [the first episode].’
They continued: ‘[Logan] went back home and crossed Kendall’s name out! Kendall Roy gets nothing!’
Shiv received the devastating news that she is pregnant later in the show, while Kendall and Roman partnered together to be joint CEOs.
On social media, fans found that one of Succession’s writers previously collaborated with S Club 7 on their late 1990s TV series Miami 7.
