Giovanni Pernice, a Strictly Come Dancing professional, has a demanding training programme for his job, so it’s no wonder that seeing him strip down in his series Travels in Italy piqued people’s interest.
The couple have travelled across the region for the series, which sees them ‘explore everything the amazing Mediterranean island has to offer,’ with Anton Du Beke, 56, playing tour guide.
The dancers had the opportunity to stay in some beautiful accommodations while seeing everything from breathtaking vistas like Mount Etna and genuine mediaeval villages to experiencing Sicilian cuisine.
Giovanni, 32, walked out onto his balcony in just a towel the morning after they arrived, wanting to soak in the sun while back in his native country.
‘What a belissimo way to begin the day,’ he said.
Saying that he had prepared a typical Sicilian breakfast for Anton, with a ‘really exceptional perspective’, Giovanni then clearly had a lot of pleasure catching his friend and colleague off surprise.
As Anton arrived to the hotel room for his supper, he wasn’t expecting to discover Giovanni practically nude.
Giovanni opened the door singing and dancing to Steps’ legendary 1998 single 5,6,7,8, while Anton could only say, ‘Wow.’
It was a sense shared by many watching at home, with many unable to turn away.
‘Oh, I say, Giovanni in just a towel,’ one person posted on Twitter.
Another added: ‘Gio cracks me up.’

‘We had a lovely car and Gio said, “Don’t drive too fast” and it was quite a fast car,’ he said.
‘I don’t want to be a spoiler but suffice to say, I got pulled over.’
‘They wanted documents, and I did not have documents,’ he told The Mirror.
He jokingly added: ‘I have never been cavity searched in my life but I enjoyed it.’
The fact that the automobile was so flashy, according to Giovanni, drew a bit too much attention to them.
‘It was that kind of car that when you drive around Sicily, you get very noticed,’ he said.
‘[The police] want to know who you are, documents and everything.’
Anton and Giovanni have been on Strictly since the 13th season, when the latter entered the show.
Being involved from its debut, Anton has participated on the show since 2004, initially as a professional dancer, then becoming a judge in 2021 after Bruno Tonioli stepped down.
Anton and Giovanni’s Adventures in Sicily is streaming on BBC iPlayer.
