Layton Williams of Bad Education is the most recent addition to the cast of Strictly Come Dancing 2023.
The Billy Elliot actress will be joining previously announced guests Amanda Abbington and Angela Rippon.
Layton told 2022 participant Richie Anderson that he would want to be coupled with a male professional after the news was made on Friday’s The One Show.
He said: ‘Absolutely buzzing to confirm that I will be taking part in THE most iconic dance competition in the UK! It’s time to bring it to the Ballroom. So excited to learn new skills from the best. Bring on the sequins… ALL the sequins!’
Layton is best known as a stage and movie actor who has been in London’s West End in roles such as Billy Elliot and Everyone’s Talking About Jamie.
Thriller Live, Rent, Hairspray, and New Adventures are also stage performances. On television, he is most recognised for his role as Stephen Carmichael in the Bad Education film and recently relaunched series. Beautiful People, Benidorm, The Cleaner, and I Hate Suzie are among the other TV shows. Layton provides the voiceover for I Kissed a Boy, the BBC’s first gay dating show.
He leads his own performing arts group, ‘Pros from the Shows,’ with the goal of inspiring the next generation of actors. He has received several Black British Theatre Awards, as well as an Attitude Award for his efforts and exposure in the LGBTQ+ community.
Stuart Broad, Brenda Williams, and Les Dennis are among others said to be joining the confirmed star on the dancefloor.
In 2022, celebrity cameraman-turned-dancer Hamza Yassin and his professional partner Jowita Przystal won the long-running ballroom tournament.
