According to rumours, Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden will capture her stage 3 breast cancer experience in a BBC documentary.
The professional dancer, 32, was diagnosed in May of this year and subsequently declared she will not be participating in this year’s series after doctors discovered new tumours following a single mastectomy.
Amy has been providing frequent updates to her social media fans, but she apparently hopes to boost awareness in the impending feature length.
A source shared: ‘Amy’s breast cancer fight has inspired millions of Strictly fans already, but she wants to do more.
The insider added to The Sun: ‘The result will be a raw but sensitive film as Amy fights back to fitness — and her beloved dance.’
Amy’s most recent Instagram status stated that she had began chemotherapy, which had left her feeling ‘tender, bruised, and aching.’
Alongside a picture of herself in a hospital bed, Amy wrote: ‘I’ve decided I want to share my chemo journey to help raise awareness, hopefully get others checking and for understanding what we go through.
‘Port fitted! Wasn’t looking forward to it. Wasn’t easy… my veins! Feeling tender, bruised and sore but the port will help massively over the next few weeks and allow me to dance when I feel well enough.
‘A port sits under the skin and the tube goes along my vein to the heart giving safe access for chemo ( I believe, I’m no dr!) Rrrrrrright that’s ✔️done! Ps don’t swipe to last slide if squeamish!.’
She was flooded by support from former and current Strictly stars and contestants, including Gorka Marquez, who penned: ‘you got this Amy.’
Kym Marsh, who competed in the series last year, wrote, ‘Brave lady xx.’
‘Sending love xx,’ commented Loose Women actress Kaye Adams, who also danced on the show in 2022.
Amy announced her breast cancer diagnosis on Instagram on May 24th, writing, ‘Hey all, I’ve got some news that isn’t easy to share.
‘I’ve recently been diagnosed with breast cancer but I’m determined to get back on that dance floor before you know it.’
Strictly judge Shirley Ballas recently shared her admiration for Amy, describing her as ‘one of the strongest women I know’.
Amy first appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in 2017 and has been matched with celebrities such as McFly’s Tom Fletcher and EastEnders’ James Bye.
How should you check your breasts for lumps or irregularities?
Discussing the importance of being breast aware, Addie Mitchell, clinical nurse specialist at Breast Cancer Now, wants women to know there is no right or wrong way to check your breasts.
‘It’s about looking and feeling regularly so any changes can be spotted quickly,’ she said. ‘The sooner breast cancer is diagnosed, the more effective treatment may be.
‘Whatever your age, being aware of all the signs and symptoms of breast cancer is crucial – it’s not just a lump to look out for. Other changes could be a nipple becoming inverted or a change in texture of the skin.
‘While most symptoms won’t mean breast cancer, if you notice anything unusual for you get it checked out by your GP.
‘Anyone with questions can call Breast Cancer Now’s nurses free on 0808 800 6000 or visit breastcancernow.org.uk.’
