Strictly Come Dancing 2020: Viewers sobbing after Amy Dowden pays emotional tribute to JJ Chalmers

Strictly Come Dancing viewers were left sobbing on Sunday night after Amy Dowden paid an emotional tribute to JJ Chalmers after they were eliminated from the series.

JJ and Amy were put in the bottom two against Made in Chelsea star Jamie Laing and his dance partner Karen Hauer.

In the dance-off, JJ and Amy performed their Charleston to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, while Jamie and Karen performed a Jive to Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.

In tense scenes which aired tonight, Craig Revel Horwood chose to save Jamie, while Motsi decided to save JJ – leaving Shirley Ballas to cast the overall vote.

In the end, Shirley decided to save Jamie and Karen, which means they have another chance next week as they compete in the semi-final.

Speaking after their elimination, an emotional Amy struggled to hold back the tears as she gave a moving speech about JJ.

‘Aw JJ, it has been an absolute honour to be your partner and most importantly friend, throughout your Strictly experience,’ she sobbed.

‘He is, and everybody would agree, one of the world’s most truest gentlemen. I honestly believe from working with JJ over the last few months I’ve become a better person and I’ve learned so much.

‘The way he faces challenges with such strength and determination, you have helped me for the rest of my life on how to face my own personal challenges.’

‘And honestly, I’m so proud of every single step you’ve performed on this floor, I just had the best time,’ she added.

It was also a tearful moment for JJ as he told host Tess Daly about his experience: ‘I’m unbelievably proud. I never thought I would make it this far, I’ve gotten half decent maybe at something which I had no clue about, to begin with and I’ve enjoyed every second of it, it has just been an absolute blast.

‘It’s just a privilege to be in this long. I mean this competition is insane! To be counted among that cast at this stage in particular means the world to me. It’s meant everything.

‘It’s been an unbelievable challenge, well outside my comfort zone but I’ve had this one [Amy] to just keep me in it and I can’t quite express what she means to me.’

Amy’s speech left Strictly viewers reaching for the tissues, with many admitting to shedding a tear of two.

One tweeted: ‘Amy’s goodbye was very emotional and melted my cold heart.’

While another said: ‘Beautiful comments from Amy tonight.’

One added: ‘JJ seems like a lovely guy and Amy’s speech got me all emosh.’

Strictly Come Dancing continues next week – and it’s the semi-finals.

However, another couple will be eliminated from the competition. With Sunday’s episode airing the elimination after Saturday’s live show.

Next week is also the semi-finals of the competition, meaning there’s only two weeks to go until we find out who takes home the glitterball.
