Strictly Come Dancing 2020: Maisie Smith reveals she froze in panic during latest routine

Strictly Come Dancing star Maisie Smith reveals she froze in panic during her most recent performance.

The EastEnders actress, who is partnered up with Gorka Marquez, had found herself in the bottom two twice over the last few weeks – but turned it all around with her Quickstep to When You’re Smiling.

She notched up a whopping 29 for the routine, getting her first 10s of the series from Motsi Mabuse and Shirley Ballas.

Speaking about the routine, and Craig Revel Horwood’s slight criticism, on spin-off It Takes Two, the 19-year-old confessed that she froze up while on the bench.

‘Do you know what happened? I got on the bench on the bench and I just suddenly thought, “I’m on Strictly”,’ she told host Rylan Clark-Neal.

‘My body just froze. There were no swivels, my leg didn’t actually move at that point.

‘I suddenly looked at him [Gorka] and he was like, [clicking] “Carry on!”’

Thankfully, Maisie was able to pull herself out of the panic – and got her highest score of the series so far.

It was definitely welcome news as the soap favourite had landed in the bottom two for the two previous weeks – with Max George and Caroline Quentin being sent home instead.

Maisie and Gorka will be hoping to continue that success in Musicals week, performing a jive to Little Shop Of Horrors.

We can’t wait to see what they pull off!

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday, at 7.25pm, on BBC One.
