Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard believes the show’s darker progression mirrors the Harry Potter franchise.

In an open letter to fans, the Duffer Brothers confirmed in February that the fifth chapter will mark the end of the saga, with the upcoming fourth instalment airing in two parts.

Season three of Netflix’s supernatural hit, which came out in 2019, left several cliffhangers for viewers to unravel, with Hopper (David Harbour) presumed dead and a powerless Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) moving away with the Byers family.

After the gripping trailer promised that a ‘war is coming’ for the beloved Hawkins crew which includes Will (Noah Schnapp) and Lucas, (Caleb McLaughlin) Finn (Mike Wheeler) revealed the series holds the same gradual intensity as the Potter films.

‘With Harry Potter, as those movies went on, the darker they went,’ the 19-year-old actor told Polygon.

‘And that’s kind of where we’re at now. It’s a perfect progression in my opinion.’

In the latest trailer, fans were also given a glimpse of some eerie scenes: a ticking grandfather clock, a look at the Russian prison where Hopper is locked up, and Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) receiving a mysterious package.

A powerless Eleven is also told: ‘Without you, we can’t win this war.’ And plenty of dramatic supernatural scenes – including creatures from the Upside Down – follow.

Fans recently spotted clues that suggest Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink) could be in danger after the terrifying teaser showed her running away from a Demogorgon-esque creature.

‘I think Max is gonna die this season,’ one person tweeted, while another wrote: ‘If Max dies in Stranger Things season 4 we are going to have a problem.’

One person warned that if anything happens to Max, they will ‘come for the Duffer Brothers’, who created the show, while someone else threatened to cancel their Netflix subscription.

Volume One will be released on May 27, and Volume Two will come out five weeks later on July 1.

The streaming service has also released a selection of promo art, including posters, to further tease fans on what’s to come.

Stranger Things season four arrives on Netflix on Friday May 27, with the first three seasons available to watch on the platform.
