The teaser trailer for Stephen Graham’s new thriller has arrived, but fans are already worried that it may be cancelled after one season by Netflix.
The streamer has a history of cancelling popular programmes, like sci-fi mystery 1899 and Joe Cornish’s YA thriller Lockwood & Co, and fans are hopeful that Bodies won’t be next.
The streamer is now preparing for the eight-parter’s October premiere and has given a minute-long trailer as well as a first look at the characters in what promises to be a terrifying series.
The trailer depicts four separate detectives, portrayed by Jacob Fortune-Lloyd, Shira Haas, Amaka Okafor, and Kyle Soller, who are investigating a strange crime that takes place in four different historical periods: 1890, 1941, 2023, and 2053.
The problem is that they’re investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of the same male body, who comes out of nowhere nude and in the middle of an alleyway in each time.
‘You’re not the first detective to discover this body,’ an ominous voiceover warns.
He continues: ‘I’m going to tell you everything. It’s going to blow your mind.’
The trailer tantalized YouTube fans to such an extent that one has already begged Netflix: ‘Now Netflix, don’t you dare cancel this one!’
‘It’s probably going to get cancelled after one season knowing Netflix,’ another lamented.
Many others were similarly captivated by the narrative and left wanting more.
One remarked: ‘Awesome trailer. We have an idea about the plot, but the details are still a mystery.’
‘A murder mystery across four separate timelines? Sounds intriguing,’ a second commented.
The synopsis from Netflix reads: ‘Based on the mind-bending graphic novel by Si Spencer, Bodies is a police procedural with a twist.
‘When a body – the same body – is found on Longharvest Lane in London’s East End in 1890, 1941, 2023 and 2053, one detective from each period must investigate.
‘As connections are drawn across the decades, the detectives soon discover their investigations are linked, and an enigmatic political leader – Elias Mannix (Stephen Graham) – becomes increasingly central.
‘Did he have a part to play in the murder? Or is something far more sinister at play? To solve the mystery, our four detectives must somehow collaborate and uncover a conspiracy spanning over 150 years.’
Consider us intrigued.
Bodies launches on Netflix on October 19.
