Warning: spoilers ahead for Ahsoka episode 5.
We, or any other Star Wars fan, could never have predicted Ahsoka’s brilliance in the newest installment… This is, to put it simply, stunning.
Episode 5 is written and directed by Dave Filoni, who created the titular character, now played by Rosario Dawson in live-action, and sees Ahsoka meet her former master Anakin Skywalker while trapped in the World Between Worlds, after her duel with Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson) left her on the verge of death.
Their reunion triggers a flood of memories, with viewers taken back to Ahsoka’s early years as Anakin’s Padawan during the Clone Wars (played by Ariana Greenblatt) in dramatic flashback sequences.
Even in those memories, which occur prior to Anakin’s full metamorphosis into Darth Vader, Ahsoka sees flashes of the wicked, lethal shrouded figure that he is to become.
Whether your sole awareness of Anakin comes from the prequel film trilogy or you observed how his character’s path grew in the animated shows The Clone Wars and Rebels, describing this episode as a rollercoaster just wouldn’t do it right.

After all this time, Ahsoka is naturally taken aback when she hears Anakin name her ‘Snips’ again, before he offers her a choice as part of his final lesson for her – to live or to die.
The heroine is hesitant to attack her former Master, and her dilemma forces her to revisit traumatic events from her past, such as rushing into combat alongside Anakin in the Clone Wars and seeing Mandalore’s siege after they had split ways.
Fans have hailed Anakin’s shifts between his identity as Anakin Skywalker and his future as Darth Vader as “executed to perfection,” as he steps away and towards Ahsoka while wielding his lightsaber.

After being rescued from the World Between Worlds by Jacen Syndulla (Evan Whitten) utilising his Force talents in episode five, Ahsoka goes on an unusual trip to find her trainee Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) in a new galaxy.
Ahsoka embarks on her journey with her faithful droid Huyang (David Tennant), while her close ally Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) remains behind with her Force-sensitive kid.
We have a feeling that, like all of the other Star Wars fans who were blown away by this episode, we’ll be thinking about it for a long time.
