As viewers wait patiently to tune in to the second season of the dystopian drama, TNT have announced that the show will also run for a third season.

The news doesn’t come as much of a surprise considering the fact Snowpiercer landed the largest premiere of a TNT show since The Alienist in 2018.

Starring Jennifer Connolly and Daveed Diggs, the Netflix/TNT crossover is a TV adaptation of Bong Joon-ho’s 2013 movie of the same name.

The sci-fi drama is set after a second Ice Age and tells the story of a band of survivors who live on a train which circles the world.

Themes of class warfare, social injustice and survival will play out within the perpetually moving train, which is organised by first, second and third-class passengers.

While the premise is similar to the original Korean blockbuster, in that it keeps the same themes and aesthetics, the show will introduce viewers to an entirely new cast, played by different actors.

A teaser was released for the show’s next chapter, and it confirms Sean Bean’s debut.

Sharing the clip onto the official Twitter account, honchos behind the social media post warned of spoilers before releasing the preview into the world.

‘If Season One left you speechless, then Season Two & Sean Bean will blow. your. mind [sic]’ they wrote alongside the short video. ‘Check out this preview for the next season of #Snowpiercer.’

Of course, the clip still looks as icy as the first season with an ominous rendition of the nursery rhyme Row, Row, Row Your Boat playing in the background. And it turns out Sean has been cast as Mr. Wilford, confirming Melanie’s worst fears that he is actally still alive.

Throughout the final episodes of season one, it has been hinted that the titular train creator has escaped death – and it appears he managed to find refuge on another train before making his way back onto Snowpiercer

Snowpiercer is available to stream on Netflix.
