Sky Sports presenter Martin Brundle accidentally confused NFL star Patrick Mahomes with basketball player Paolo Banchero at the Miami Grand Prix in the most awkward mix up we’ve seen in a minute.
The presenter was live on air chatting with drivers and team bosses before the race began when he thought he had bumped into the household name and proceeded to chase him down.
After shouting ‘Patrick’ at the confused Paolo, he eventually managed to capture the sportsman’s attention and asked him about the atmosphere of the event.
‘I’ve never been to an F1 race, this is spectacular,’ Paolo replied.
‘It’s amazing to be allowed right in the middle of the competitors right before the race starts,’ Martin fired back, prompting his interviewee to say: ‘You can see they are locked in. It reminds me of myself, real focused.’
It was at that moment that Martin became aware of his mistake. ‘It’s not Patrick, that’s why you ignored me in the beginning,’ he said. ‘What is your name sir?’
Paolo then stated his name with Martin admitting he thought he was talking to somebody else’ before apologising for the mix up.
The awkward moment circulated far and wide on social media, with many in stitches over the shenanigan.
‘Brundle is a legend,’ wrote one, while another cringed: ‘This is so awkward’.
After the encounter had sent the internet into a frenzy, Paolo took to Twitter to describe his mood: ‘I’m just vibing right now man.’
Patrick himself also reacted to the interaction, writing: ‘Bro ain’t no way,’ with four laughing emojis.
One factor that should have given away that Martin had the wrong man is of course the significant height difference between the two stars.
Patrick, an American football Quarterback for the NFL team Kansas City Chiefs, stands at 6ft 2ins while Paolo is a huge 6ft 9ins.
The joys of live TV!
