Kim Cattrall is returning to the Sex and the City spin-off Just Like That.
In the original HBO series, which aired from 1998 to 2004, the 66-year-old actress played sex-positive publicist Samantha Jones.
However, the Ticket to Heaven actress has not portrayed the fan-favorite role since the Sex and the City 2 film in 2010, alleging she was not invited to participate in the remake after’making her feelings plain’ regarding a prospective third picture.
While Kim did not appear in the first season of And Just Like That, Samantha was still a part of the plot, and her absence was justified by a departure to the UK following a disagreement with Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie.
Kim, on the other hand, is slated to make a triumphant comeback as a cameo in the series’ final episode, which follows Carries (Sarah), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte (Kristin Davies) as they negotiate life in their 50s.
According to Variety, Samantha will appear in one scene recorded in New York on March 22 in which she has a phone chat with Carrie.
Kim has already stated her opinions regarding And Just Like That, stating that the continuation of Samantha’s tale without her was ‘strange.’
Adding to her criticism of the spin-off, she told Variety, ‘The series is basically the third movie,’ adding, ‘That’s how inventive it was.’
She also claimed that if given the chance to play Samantha again, she would still say “no.”
Kim also appeared to approve of the reaction surrounding the first season of And Just Like That, like a tweet that called the programme ‘trashy.’
She asserted, though, that she was ‘never approached’ to be a part of the remake and ‘found out about it like everyone else did – on social media.’
Sarah Jessica Parker, an executive producer of And Just Like That, confirmed her account.
‘We did not ask her to be part of this because she made it clear that that wasn’t something she wanted to pursue, and it no longer felt comfortable for us, and so it didn’t occur to us,’ the 58-year-old told Hollywood Reporter.
Kim, who has previously stated that she has never been friends with her co-stars despite their on-screen chemistry, revealed why she declined a third film to Variety.
‘It’s a great wisdom to know when enough is enough. I also didn’t want to compromise what the show was to me. The way forward seemed clear.’
Kim has also discussed her connection with Sarah, telling Piers Morgan in her Life Stories, ‘I think she could’ve been kinder.’
‘There just isn’t anyone else who’s ever talked about me this way, so it’s very painful,’ Sarah said in response.
Aiden (John Corbett), Carrie’s past love interest, will also make a return in Just Like That.
And Just Like That… will be available to watch on Sky Comedy and on June 22.
