Tina Malone has revealed a crucial milestone she reached after opting to stop drinking, emphasising that she ‘doesn’t miss’ alcohol.
One of the actress’ most well-known roles is that of matriarch Mimi Maguire on Shameless, which she played from 2005 until 2013.
In recent years, the 60-year-old has spoken frankly about her battles with alcohol, as well as her path to sobriety.
Tina reached a significant milestone this year: 25 years of sobriety.
She said in a new interview that her ‘greatest sin’ was drinking many years ago.
‘My biggest vice was always the drink and now I’m 25 years sober. Do I miss it? No I don’t,’ she told Closer magazine, MailOnline reported.
In 2014, the Brookside actress revealed to the newspaper the magnitude of her previous alcohol addiction before becoming clean.
‘In those days a typical night out for me would start off with a bottle of champagne at home while I was getting ready, then some spirits,’ she said at the time.
‘I could put away 30 or 40 gin and tonics no trouble, half a bottle of brandy, a bottle of champagne, 10 bottles of Beck’s…’
Tina spoke openly about her 12-stone weight reduction during an interview on Loose Women some years ago, admitting the ‘cruel’ remarks she had received in the past.
‘I go on about these bullies, these trolls, it upsets my family,’ she told the panel.
‘I’ve done so well. I’ve lost 12 and a half stone… I’m a scouser, I’m hard as nails.’
‘But I’m only human, I don’t deserve the hammering I’ve gotten from people,’ she said on Twitter in 2017 about the trolling she had received.
