According to reports, Selena Gomez removed an Instagram post after being accused of violating the terms of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.
The actress, 31, was claimed to have released what seemed to be a behind-the-scenes film from Only Murders in the Building, the programme in which she co-stars with Steve Martin and Martin Short as an amateur sleuth.
The photo was uploaded around the same time that the newest episode of the series’ third season was aired, and it was captioned, ‘Missing and yearning.’
It also supplied a hashtag for the show’s official Instagram account.
Although the caption did not actively encourage Selena’s 428 million followers to watch the show, it sparked debate among fans about whether she had violated the actor’s strike rules, which prohibit SAG-AFTRA members from promoting their work.
The post received over 1.1 million likes in the 15 hours before it was removed from her profile.
According to Variety, who also obtained a copy of the post, others lambasted the actress, going so far as to term her post “tone-deaf.”
While the strike is in effect, members are not permitted to promote their work through press interviews or social media posts.
While Selena did not speak in the video, her decision to tag the show’s Facebook page caused viewers to assume the video was shot on the set of the show, prompting some to question whether the rules had been followed.
The show’s newest season premiered last month, but due to the strike, Selena and her co-stars, including Meryl Streep and Paul Rudd, have not done any interviews about the new episodes.
Thousands of actors have been on strike since June 14, when they joined the Writers Guild of America in a quest for higher pay and other demands.
Actors and writers have picketed film and television production businesses for the first time since 1960, practically shutting down Hollywood.
Many celebrities have joined the strike, with stars such as Bryan Cranston, Jane Fonda, Adam Sandler, and Brian Cox being seen on the picket line.
Only Murders in the Building is streaming on Disney Plus.
