Warning: spoilers ahead for episode 6 finale of Secret Invasion.

The Secret Invasion episode 6 conclusion has sent Marvel fans into a tailspin.

Not only was extreme rebel Skrull Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir) dispatched by the superpowered G’iah (Emilia Clarke), who now possesses Captain Marvel’s powers, but Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson) reconciled romantically with his wife Varra (Charlayne Woodard) in her natural form.

One scene in the last installment, however, featuring Colonel James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes (Don Cheadle) and his connection to his deceased buddy Iron Man, alias Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr), has left fans in tears.

After defeating Gravik, G’iah assists in the release of humans held hostage in the Skrull base, including the actual human Rhodey and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman).

while Rhodey awakens, he is seen wearing what appears to be a medical gown, while troops assist in carrying him outside the headquarters to freedom.

There’s a reason you thought the hospital robe seemed familiar… War scanner last seen in that suit in the 2016 film Captain America: Civil War, when he was scanned in an MRI scanner after being blasted out of the sky by Vision and paralysed from the waist down.

Both hospital gowns were blue with short sleeves and a white rim, so unless we’re incorrect, this is an important indication pointing to the conclusion that a Skrull has been impersonating the military guy for quite some time.

Furthermore, if the actual Rhodey has been imprisoned by the Skrulls since Civil War, he may be unaware that his closest buddy Tony died in the battle against Thanos in Avengers: Endgame.

This discovery has devastated fans, as one tweeted: ‘Rhodey has been a Skrull since CW [Civil War]… he doesn’t know Tony is d word….. I’m sick actually.’

‘I didn’t think about this… thank you for ruining my day,’ another said, while someone else wrote: ‘It’s messed up that #Rhodey has no idea that #TonyStark is dead in #SecretInvasion.’

To recap, we are not ok.

Don has featured as Rhodey in numerous additional MCU films after Civil War, including Avengers: Infinity War, Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame, and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

He’s also due to star in the upcoming TV show-turned-movie Armour Wars, which could provide further light on his capture.

Secret Invasion is available to watch on Disney Plus.
