Channel 4’s SAS: Who Dares Wins has found a new home across the pond, as a US edition is in the works, according to reports.
The military-inspired series, which launched in 2015, follows a group of former army officials who put their recruits through gruelling challenges which test their physical and mental strength.
The programme’s popularity has inspired three celebrity spin-offs with the likes of Alexandra Burke, Ore Oduba, Kerry Katona, and Joey Essex taking part.
The Sun claims that the new show, appropriately titled SAS: Who Dares Wins In America, is being developed and is set to huge hit with viewers fuelling their ‘love for all things British.’
‘The show has been a huge hit on this side of the Atlantic, even spawning a celebrity spin-off which is just as popular as the civilian version,’ a source told the publication.
‘Australia and Sweden already have their versions, so taking it to another country is nothing new,’ the insider added.
The news follows Ant Middleton’s axe from the UK version due to his ‘personal conduct’ which came after he made controversial comments in relation to the Black Lives Matter movement and the coronavirus pandemic.
Sources claimed at the time he decided to step down as bosses weren’t impressed about the remarks, in which he appeared to describe both Black Lives Matter and far-right protesters as ‘scum’.
A Channel 4 spokesperson told Metro.co.uk at the time: ‘Ant Middleton will not be taking part in future series of SAS: Who Dares Wins.
‘Following a number of discussions Channel 4 and Minnow Films have had with him in relation to his personal conduct it has become clear that our views and values are not aligned and we will not be working with him again.’
However, the former Special Forces soldier, 41, wasn’t out of the SAS: Who Dares Wins franchise for too long, as he is currently the face of SAS Australia.
If a US version is confirmed, we hope whoever presents won’t follow Mr Middleton’s extreme methods, like setting contestants on fire and making them strip naked.
When asked about his fearful tactics, Ant said: ‘With each season, we get really creative in focusing and exacerbating common and collective fears.
‘We design tasks to force people to overcome these fears and to manage their emotions in extreme circumstances.’
