Safiyya Vorajee says relationship with Ashley Cain is ‘stronger’ following split and baby daughter Azaylia’s death

Safiyya Vorajee revealed there is no bad blood between her and Ashley Cain following their split.

The former footballer and aesthetic practitioner first started dating in 2017, but confirmed their separation last month.

It has been a particularly devastating past year for the former couple, whose daughter Azaylia died at just eight months old in April 2021 following a battle with a rare form of cancer.

Her parents had hoped to take her to Singapore for specialist treatment to save Azaylia’s life, but were tragically told her condition had worsened and it was no longer an option.

Safiyya – who was promoting her new book during Wednesday’s edition of Lorraine – told the 62-year-old presenter where things currently stand between the pair.

‘We will always honour Azaylia, and mine and Ashley’s friendship is so strong together, we’re so strong,’ she said.

Commending the couple’s partnership, Lorraine replied: ‘You’ve lost so much and you don’t want to lose anymore.

‘So it’s brilliant that you two are working together.’

‘If it wasn’t for our [Azaylia] foundation, we wouldn’t be here,’ Safiyya added.

Reality star Ashley recently ran from Nuneaton, Warwickshire, to Trafalgar Square in London in memory of daughter Azaylia.

Taking to Instagram after the run, an exhausted Ashley began: ‘Oh my God, we did it. We did it. Honestly, there was not one part of that run in the 30 hours that I thought we were gonna complete it. It was that tough, mentally, physically and emotionally.

‘Especially when I picked up two injuries as well, but you know what, I powered through, we believed, and we got across the line.’

‘The team was absolutely amazing and we did what we set out to do. Thank you for all of the love and the support,’ he added.

Ashley signed off by paying tribute to his little girl: ‘Azaylia, I love you, I miss you, and I hope I made you proud today.’

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV.
