Rylan Clark has wasted no time in throwing his hat in the ring to be presenter of the newly-announced reality TV competition Squid Game: The Challenge – and he even teased an idea for his wardrobe.
Netflix thrilled fans of the popular Korean drama when they announced the spin-off show and offered the chance for 456 people to take part in pursuit of winning a truly life-altering sum of money.
The largest cast in reality TV history will also be competing for the biggest cash pot prize ever too – a cool $4.56million (£3,736,054).
It seems Strictly: It Takes Two host Rylan, who recently marked 10 years since his iconic X Factor audition, was also swept up in the excitement as a lover of the original production and is keen to get involved.
However, the BBC Radio 2 star was lobbying Netflix for a presenting gig on the game show rather than being a contestant.
‘Sooooo who do I need to be pursuading [sic] with honeycomb and tracksuits to host @squidgame on @NetflixUK @netflix,’ the 33-year-old asked.
‘FYI I will host the show dressed like this always,’ he added, sharing a tonally appropriate picture of Wes Bentley as Seneca Crane in The Hunger Games film.
Crane was famously Head Gamemaker in the 74th Hunger Games, where he allowed both Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) to emerge as victors.
Considering that the Hunger Games is a brutal but bitter fight to the death set in a dystopian world too, the suggestion seems entirely reasonable – although Netflix has stressed that its real-life contestants will not face sudden death should they be eliminated.
The 10-part competition will see contestants battle through a series of games inspired by the original drama, alongside some new additions.
Strategies, alliances, and character will be put to the test as each round contestants are eliminated.
142million households around the world watched Squid Game within its first four weeks after it was released in September 2021, making it the streaming giant’s biggest ever show.
Squid Game is available to stream on Netflix.
