Ryan Reynolds actually ‘enjoyed’ being called a ‘c***’ at his first Wrexham football match

Ryan Reynolds revealed he actually ‘enjoyed’ being branded a ‘c***’ at his first ever Wrexham football match.

The La La Land star announced intentions to buy the Welsh club in 2020 with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Rob McElhenney, before taking full control in February 2021.

Ryan and Rob bought the club from Supporters Trust for £2million and they’ve since been followed by Disney+ cameras to document their quest to take Wrexham global in a new documentary, Welcome To Wrexham, which includes behind the scenes footage and access.

The pair have visited the club several times, and have been spotted with a pretty hands-on approach, despite fans not being too friendly at first.

According to comedian Humphrey Ker, who is Executive Director of the documentary, Rob and Ryan had to have explained to them that ‘no matter how successful the team is, someone will come up to them and call them a c***.’

Humphrey added to The Times: ‘The first game they attended at Maidenhead they received abuse, and I think they actually enjoyed it.’

Ryan previously shared how his wife Blake Lively took the news that he invested money into the club, admitting that he attempted to lessen the blow with ‘bad news and really bad news’.

Sitting down with Rob on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Ryan recalled: ‘I remember saying, “I have bad news and I have really bad news, I slipped into someone’s DMs again.

‘”The really bad news is that I might have bought half of a fifth-tier national football league in Wales.”’

Asked what her reaction was, Ryan replied: ‘Not good, Rob. Not great. We’re still working through that one.’

When Ryan and Rob took full control of the National League club, they celebrated news of their takeover by simply tweeting: ‘Wrexham Is The Name.’

Welcome to Wrexham is available to watch on Disney Plus.
