Brace yourselves, Whovians: if stories are to be believed, Ryan Gosling may soon be swapping his ‘Kendomland’ for the Tardis.
The 42-year-old American actor was already famous, but his stardom skyrocketed last summer after he starred as Ken in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie.
After breaking past the $1 billion mark in August, the picture became the first by a solo female filmmaker to do so at the box office.
With reports tying him to Russell T. Davies’ Doctor Who resurrection, it looks that committed Whovian Ryan will get his desire following Barbie’s phenomenal success.
While nothing has been verified, TV sources have hinted that the La La Land and Notebook actor may soon be joining Barbie co-star Ncuti Gatwa.
‘This would be a huge coup for the show, but also a real honour for Ryan who is something of a Whovian,’ a source told The Sun on Thursday.
They added: ‘It’s not clear yet what role he’d have, but the writers would tailor a character for him to play, if he could find the time in his packed schedule.’
Ryan was seen wearing a Doctor Who T-shirt with a picture of Ncuti on the front last year, and even had an exciting conversation with the Sex Education star.
‘I remember Ryan Gosling bounding up to my trailer like, “Doctor Who is the coolest show in the world man! I’m the biggest fan,”‘ he told British Vogue.
It’s unclear whether Ryan will appear in the forthcoming episodes or whether he’ll have to wait until Ncuti’s second season to deliver the Kenergy.
Furthermore, there is no word on whether he will portray a villain or an ally, but any presence would undoubtedly bring the house down.
Ryan prepared a flash mob surprise for filmmaker Greta Gerwig’s 40th birthday festivities in the weeks following Barbie’s premiere and popularity.
In the realm of Doctor Who, TV host Davina McCall is speculated to appear heavily in an upcoming special episode of the fantasy series.
Doctor Who returns to BBC later this year.
