Russell Watson is now living with a South American ostrich

Russell Watson has said that he now lives with an ostrich from South America, 14 horses, 6 alpacas, and a few chickens.

The classical singer and his wife Louise own a farm in the Cheshire countryside. They have brought animals from refuge into their home and care for them there.

But, the I’m a Celebrity star said, it’s not like Clarkson’s Farm.

Appearing on Friday’s Good Morning Britain, Russell said: ‘One side of my family were all farmers, so there’s something about the fresh air and open fields, it really kind of gets me.

‘We’re basically, we’re not like a proper working farm like Jeremy Clarkson’s place, it’s basically an animal sanctuary.’

He went on to say that his wife “saves” animals, like the two chickens she saved last week from being killed.

‘She said, “That’s not happening on my watch.” She got in her car, drove down to the farmer and said, “I’ll have them,” so we brought them back to the farm.’

He continued: ‘We’ve got six alpacas, 14 horses, 12 chickens now, one cockerel, we’ve just inherited, there was an animal sanctuary which was closing down, we didn’t know what was going to happen to the animals.

‘My wife said they’ve got a South American ostrich… and she said, “We need to get this, I don’t know what’s going to happen to it.”

‘And so she’s now in the field with the alpacas, which is brilliant.’

And the ostrich has made itself quite at home, as Russell explained: ‘When she first got there the alpacas were terrified of her, but within a couple of weeks, she sleeps in the corner of the paddock, and the alpacas sit around her in a semi-circle and guard her at night.’

This comes after Russell said his wife saved the life of one of their chickens that was almost drowning by pulling it out of the water.

After looking for Christine, the chicken, they found that she was floating in their pool.

Russell pulled Christine out of the water right away and said he thought she was “gone” until Louise took matters into her own hands by kissing the chicken and “pumping her chest.”

(Or as Russell called it, ‘beak-to-mouth.’)

Unbelievable as it may seem, it worked. Christine “woke up,” “came back to life,” and was as good as new.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV1.
