The first star has been revealed on the new season of the glitzy and glam RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race, and it’s none other than a bona fide Broadway legend.

When season 2 of the star-studded spin-off show was announced, it emerged that it was coming back with a jaw-dropping twist.

While in its first outing, the programme saw the celebrities – including Vanessa Williams, Dustin Milligan and Loni Love – introduce themselves and undergo incredible drag makeovers from start to finish, this time around, the famous faces aren’t revealed until they’re asked by head judge RuPaul to sashay away.

After taking on an epic lip sync challenge, the first competitor to leave in episode one was none other than Loretta Devine, as revealed in Metro.co.uk‘s exclusive first UK look.

Her best-known roles include playing Lorrell Robinson in the original Dreamgirls production and Adele Webber in Grey’s Anatomy, a performance for which she won an Emmy.

Going by the drag name Fabulosity, Loretta was mentored and made over by Queen Supreme Monet X Change, who won the fourth season of All Stars alongside Trinity the Tuck.

Fabulosity landed in the bottom three opposite Jackie Would and Electra Owl having performed a lip sync to Mary J Blige’s Just Fine, before being informed by RuPaul that her time in the competition had come to an end.

Numerous Drag Race fans tweeted that they realised it was Loretta behind the make-up straight away, as her voice is ‘so distinctive’.

Others expressed their utter dismay that she was the first person to be eliminated, given how much of an admired performer she is.

‘Y’all are going to hell for making Loretta Devine lip sync for her life,’ one person wrote, seemingly seething with anger.

‘RuPaul eliminated a Dreamgirl. NO. You’re so amazing Ms. Loretta Devine!!’ another wrote in support.

‘They should never have sent the Legendary Loretta Devine home on the first show!’ one person affirmed in disbelief.

After originating the role of Lorrell Robinson in Dreamgirls on Broadway, Loretta went on to have a cameo in the 2006 film as a jazz singer, who performs in the bar where Effie White (Jennifer Hudson) also sings years after being ousted out of the group.

She’s starred in theatre productions including The Wiz, films such as Waiting to Exhale and TV shows including Black-ish and The Carmichael Show.

RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race airs on WOW Presents Plus in the UK.
