Rick Astley didn’t seem to mind getting dressed up for his appearance on BBC Breakfast, rolling out of bed and onto the screen in his jammies.
The 80s pop diva has been named as one of the main artists for the 2017 Glastonbury Festival, and she appeared on the morning show on Wednesday to discuss the momentous occasion.
The Never Gonna Give You Up singer, 57, appeared to have only just awoken before informing co-hosts Jon Kay and Sally Nugent that he will be singing at the famed event this year.
Rick, who returned to the charts for the first time in over 30 years with his number one album 50 in 2016, will appear on the Pyramid Stage at Worthy Farm on June 24.
‘Obviously, it is an amazing honour and a privilege to play there, I get to play on the Pyramid stage which is absolutely bonkers to be honest,’ he said.
‘I’ll be early by the way, I’ll be very early on the Saturday, a bit too early so there you go.
‘I’m still in my pyjamas now, I might do it in my pyjamas, to be honest.’
Sally asked: ‘I was going to ask you, Rick, are they actually your pyjamas? They’re very smart.”
Rick threw his arms to the side and shimmied to show off his nightwear, which Sally stated made her want they could give the performance in their nightwear.
Then pointing to his attire, Rick added: ‘They are actually my pyjamas.’
Viewers at home couldn’t get enough of his costume of choice.
‘Oh love Rick Astley in his pyjamas on BBC Breakfast has made my morning,’ one person posted on Twitter.
‘Brilliant !!! Rick Astley live on the BBC in his pyjamas!!! What a guy.’
During the interview, Rick stated that he was’still in disbelief’ to be performing at the Somerset festival.
‘I’m ashamed to say I have never performed there, I’ve never even been to Glastonbury. I’ve dropped my daughter off several times,’ he said.
‘As a performer and someone who has been on stage most of my life, this one’s a big one, there’s no doubt about it.
‘We’ve all done it, we’ve all watched Glastonbury on the BBC and gone, “wow that is monster”, so to actually walk out on that stage is going to be crazy.’
He claimed that after being scheduled to perform the year the festival was cancelled because to the pandemic, he feared his “shot” was over.
‘I didn’t think we’d get an invite back simply because time moves on so quickly and they’ve got new artists and they’ve got a massive schedule to organise so I kind of did think that’s my chance gone,’ he said.
‘I was really completely made up when they got in touch, it’s a badge of honour.
‘To play in front of that crowd is a privilege.’
Rick stated last year that it was’really odd’ to watch his famous 80s song Never Gonna’ Give You Up still spreading like wildfire as a result of the rickrolling phenomenon.
‘It’s just this mad sort of thing the world that we live in today is so different to how it was back then, you can have this whole other existence on the internet,’ he said.
He did however add that it ‘doesn’t mean anything when I got down to the local coffee shop’.
BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
