Dan Harmon has revealed the biggest change fans of Rick and Morty will see when it returns for season five, explaining he is ‘firmly against reset-button-hitting’.

Fans only have days to wait until the arrival of the new season (in the US that is), but may notice some tweaks have been made that will set it apart from earlier offerings.

According to Digital Spy, Harmon told press that viewers can expect to see the weird and wonderful cast of characters ‘grow and change’ as it moves to more serialised storytelling.

‘It’s really weird in animation because obviously Morty has to be 14 forever. Summer is 17 forever. Rick is whatever he is forever,’ he said.

‘So that question becomes like: do your characters grow and change? I’m firmly against that reset-button-hitting where there’s no awareness present. I look at it as like smoking meat versus cooking it. You kind of let the flavour of itself happen, and let that change things.’

Referencing comedy duo Abbott and Costello, he hinted that we can expect to see Morty show some attitude after years of putting up with his granddad’s antics.
