Former Pointless host Richard Osman admitted that the presenting gig ‘took a lot’ out of him after confirming his exit from the quiz show last month.
In a statement, the 51-year-old revealed that he had decided to quit the programme to focus more on his writing, having published several books including bestseller The Thursday Murder Club.
Although he hailed his 12-year stint on the show ‘a joy from start to finish,’ Richard reflected on why he decided to step down.
During Wednesday’s This Morning, he expressed to hosts Phillip Schofield and Rochelle Humes how exhausting it was presenting a daily show.
‘It takes a lot out of you,’ Richard said.
‘My thing has been people only play Pointless once or twice, and I want to give them a good time and have it be exciting for everyone.
‘So, I’ve always given 100% to Pointless, and I was getting to the stage where I don’t have time to give 100% to everything.
He continued: ‘I had done 12 years of it., so if one thing could go, because I still love House of Games, and I love doing the writing.
‘It was just the one thing where I was like, you know what let someone else have a go at this.’
In a statement Richard wrote: ‘I will miss everyone so much, but I’m thrilled that I’ll still be presenting the celebrity shows. I can’t thank everyone enough for twelve amazing years.’
Following his departure, many fans are speculating who will be taking the reins.
Countdown star Susie Dent, known for sitting in Dictionary Corner on the Channel 4 game show, is the current frontrunner according to bookmakers Ladbrokes, who are offering odds of 5/2 for her.
While comedian Alex Horne, who’s best known for creating TV series Taskmaster, is in second place with odds of 7/2.
