Richard Madeley regaled Good Morning Britain listeners with a rather bizarre yarn about Prince Philip.
On Tuesday morning, the veteran broadcaster, 67, was interviewing Top Gear star Richard Hammond when he recalled a childhood memory.
In it, he described his first encounter with the Royal Family as a youngster, as well as how his pet cat puked in the late Prince’s automobile.
‘My dad worked for Ford, he was in the press office. And we got the very first Ford Mustang to arrive in the UK, which my dad fixed up the delivery of,’ he proudly told car enthusiast Hammond and fellow GMB host Kate Garraway.
‘He had to prep it up for Prince Philip. Ford lent it to Prince Philip. We had a Ford Mustang in our drive, in Romford, Essex, for two nights.’
‘I took our cat to have a look at the car and the cat threw up in the car, the night before it was due to be delivered.’
As Kate and Hammond reeled, Madeley went on: ‘My dad had to clean it up at three in the morning.’
He added, maybe unnecessarily: ‘My dad was not happy.’
‘It stank,’ he added later.
Madeley’s stunning revelation comes after he made news for a totally different reason on GMB, receiving criticism for asking British Palestinian MP Layla Moran if she was aware of Hamas’ terror assaults on Israel before they occurred on October 7.
He has subsequently apologised for the question, after calls for his dismissal.
