Richard Madeley is furious after being robbed at his neighbourhood bar.
The Good Morning Britain host claims that his iPhone was stolen by someone purporting to sell a magazine, which was put on top of his device before being swiped without his knowledge.
The outspoken 67-year-old host is enraged by the’malicious magic trick’ and joked that the thief should be executed for their claimed crime.
‘I’ve always been against capital punishment but after the week I’ve had I’m making an exception,’ he wrote in the Spectator.
‘The return of the death penalty for iPhone thieves, if you please. By garrotting, preferably.’
He explained that he was in his local pub when he got approached by a ‘weird-looking guy shambling around the bar’, who put the ‘dog-earned magazine down’ on his table and ‘demanded’ he bought it.
Richard continued: ‘When I refused he swept it back again and wandered off. Five minutes later I realised he’d smuggled my phone away underneath the magazine.’
He described the ploy as a ‘bog-standard technique’ and warned people not to fall for the same trick. ‘I loathe the man who did this to me. Even so, I accept that garrotting is probably a stretch too far,’ he quipped.
‘So I’ll settle for a straightforward hanging. Just as long as I’m the one allowed to pull the trapdoor lever, OK?’
Meanwhile, Richard made an unfortunate gaffe on GMB recently while discussing his daughter Chloe’s ex James Haskell and his appearance on I’m A Celebrity in 2019.
He commented to his co-host Susanna Reid: ‘It is early days, I remember when my son-in-law James Haskell was in the jungle doing really well and riding high in the polls and then he lost it.’
The unintentional reference of James as his son-in-law comes after the 38-year-old and Chloe, 36, announced their divorce and the birth of their 15-month-old daughter Bodhi.
Chloe, the daughter of broadcasters Richard and Judy Finnigan, and James confirmed their breakup ‘amicably’ on Instagram at the end of September.
