Reneé Rapp is leaving Max’s The Sex Lives of College Girls in the middle of season 3.
The 23-year-old American actress, who portrays rich lesbian student Leighton in the Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble comedy, acknowledged her departure in a statement, claiming the job has altered her life.
Her character, who is from New York and is attempting to live up to her mother’s high expectations, is one of four 18-year-old college housemates attempting to discover their sexualities while navigating the trials and tribulations of university and life.
Addressing her exit, Reneé said: ‘College girls moved me out to LA and introduced me to some of my favourite people. 2 and a half years later – it’s given me ya’ll and this community.
‘Thank u Mindy, Justin, and everyone at Max for believing in me. A lot of queer work gets belittled – but playing Leighton has changed my life.
‘I love who I am 10x more than I did before knowing her. I hope she gave ya’ll a little bit of that too. she’s such a tiny part of representation but even the tiny parts count.
‘I wouldn’t be half the person I am without her and ya’ll. I love that bitch more than you know.
‘I’m so excited for this season and I can’t wait for you to see what we have coming for her and the girls.’ (sic)
According to Deadline, Reneé will appear in a handful of episodes in the upcoming instalment, but will not serve as a main role beyond that.
Reneé’s departure comes only weeks after she announced a tour, with her first stop in Houston, Texas on September 15.
