Teresa Giudice has opened up about her stint on Real Housewives of New Jersey, admitting that she has only just started watching the show ahead of season 13.
The 50-year-old has been on the Bravo series since the very beginning, in 2009, and cameras have followed her highs and lows during that time.
Viewers have had a front row seat to her split from ex-husband Joe Giudice, her time in prison and her feud with brother Joe Gorge and his wife, Melissa.
They have also seen her close bond with her four daughters, and her journey to the altar with Louie Ruelas.
Despite many tuning in to watch the drama in RHONJ, it turns out she wasn’t one of them – until now, that is.
‘I’m watching the show for the first time because I never watched it before. And if you pay attention, when I was at the reunions, Andy Cohen would ask me questions and I wouldn’t know what he was talking about,’ she said in a new interview. ‘Everybody knew I was not watching the show.’
Discussing why she has only just started watching the episodes, after more than a decade on screens, she admitted that she was curious of how Joe and Melissa had spoken about her.
‘I’ve been seeing all this on Instagram, these accounts that are posting past episodes. And I’m watching and I’m like, “My brother said that? My sister-in-law said that?” So then I started watching and I’m like, “Now, I got my answer,”’ she continued to People Magazine.
‘I couldn’t watch it [initially] because it was so hard for me to relive it. And good thing I didn’t watch it back then, because now I’m seeing what my brother and my sister-in-law was saying about me back then, oh my God. It was like a knife right through my heart. I think I would’ve reacted differently if I would’ve watched the show.
‘Now I know why I didn’t watch it. Maybe it was just to keep the peace, for our family, for my parents … I kept peace while my parents were alive. And now I have closure. Now I understand. I am living in my truth. I finally came to my truth and I’m not going to accept this toxicity anymore. And I am going to be the mama bear, protect my family.’
Teresa might want to get a move on with her binge watching session as season 13 premieres on February 7.
If the trailer is anything to go by, it will focus mainly on her ongoing drama with her brother, as well as her wedding to Louie.
There has been speculation that she would be making her exit from the program – as she will be appearing in a wedding spin-off.
Thankfully, she told Metro.co.uk that she had no plans to leave New Jersey for a very long time.
‘Oh, yes. I’m going to be on it until they want me off,’ she promised us. ‘I’m always going to be on.’
The Real Housewives of New Jersey season 13 premieres on February 7 on Bravo, and airs the same day on in the UK.
