Reacher is the series everyone seems to be talking about right now, and for good reason.
The series found a new home on Amazon last year following a movie franchise also based on author Lee Child’s series of novels.
Reacher proved an instant and massive success: it ranked in Amazon’s top five most-watched series ever over a 24-hour period, and just days after its release was commissioned for a second series.
But as fans gear up for a new series, there are still plenty of mysteries left in the first eight episodes – like a hidden cameo from the author.
Every so often, the creator of a piece of work will make a cameo in their series or film: think Stan Lee in the Marvel movies; think M Night Shyamalan staring directly into the camera in Old.
Hidden in an episode of Reacher is none other than the author of the books himself, James Dover Grant, best known under his pen-name Child.
In one of the final scenes of Pie – the eighth and final episode of the series – Alan Ritchson’s Reacher heads to a diner to meet Finlay.
Just as he’s walking in to the restaurant, an older man pushes past him to leave, muttering ‘excuse me’ on the way out.
That older man? Yep, it’s Child.
The author had previously made a cameo in the film franchise starring Tom Cruise, so there had been speculation he would pop up somewhere in the series.
But, of course, the producers kept us hanging until the very last episode.
That said, it may not be Child’s last cameo in the show: he has penned a total of 27 Jack Reacher books, with the first series based only on debut novel The Killing Floor.
Showrunner Nick Santora has also hinted that the series may not adapt the books in chronological order, meaning the upcoming series two has a whopping 26 books to choose from for adaption.
Star of the show Alan celebrated the news of a second series on Instagram, where he wrote: ‘ ‘Unlike Reacher who chooses to say nothing, I’m simply speechless.
‘In just our opening weekend you’ve made #ReacheronPrime one of @primevideo most watched shows EVER! That is insane.’
Author Child previously joked about the idea of the series adapting the entire series in early February.
He suggested: ‘By October, there’ll be 27 books. So there’s 26 more seasons to go, by which time I’ll be about a hundred, and that would work for me.’
Reacher is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
