Ray Stevenson remembered as ‘gentle’ and ‘brilliant’ by Ahsoka co-star Rosario Dawson months after actor’s death aged 58

Rosario Dawson paid tribute to her late Ahsoka co-star Ray Stevenson following his passing, recalling their “amazing chats.”

It was revealed in May of this year that the actor had died at the age of 58.

The actor, who appeared in films such as King Arthur, Thor, and Punisher, died just a few days before his 59th birthday.

This week, the Star Wars series Ahsoka premieres on Disney Plus, with Ray playing a Jedi-turned-mercenary named Baylan Skoll in a posthumous performance that has already received positive feedback.

Speaking about her late co-star, Rosario, 44, described Ray as an ‘almost, like, Nordic kind of man, who was very heavy-handed and then just like the most gentle, brilliant, like loving divine feminine spirit’.

‘You just had the most extraordinary conversations with him about his family and philosophies,’ she told People in an interview that took place before the actors’ strike began.

‘I’ve had so many people who I know are friends with him. We were so blessed to have him working with us. He made all of us better.’

Daredevil star Rosario added that Ray was ‘heavy-handed’ in the fight scenes that they shared together, stating: ‘I was like, “I’m really having to protect myself here. We’re putting in the work.”’

When Ray’s death was confirmed earlier this year, Rosario paid homage to him on Instagram, posting behind-the-scenes photos from the production of Ahsoka.

‘A giant of a man… @officialraystevenson_ , stunned and reeling from this tragic, devastating news. Gone too soon from this world,’ she wrote in her caption at the time.

‘At a loss for words… just wanted to mark this moment and share your ever ready and present smile. Love you forever. Holding your family in my heart. #LegendsNeverDie.’

The reason of death for the actor has not been made public.

Ray made his cinematic debut in the 1998 picture The Theory of Flight, after being born on May 25, 1964 in Lisburn, County Antrim, Northern Ireland.

In the 2008 action thriller Punisher: War Zone, he played the main character Frank Castle/The Punisher.

Ray was married to actress Ruth Gemmell for eight years until splitting up in 2005. He had three children with anthropologist Elisabetta Caraccia.

Ahsoka premieres on Wednesday August 23 on Disney Plus with new episodes released on Wednesdays.
