Rachel Riley ‘wants Piers Morgan’s job on Good Morning Britain after disagreeing with Meghan comments’

Rachel Riley has reportedly put herself forward for Piers Morgan’s job on Good Morning Britain, having ‘celebrated’ after the presenter left the show on Tuesday.

The Countdown co-host could be set to join the programme in his place, The Sun reports.

It comes after Piers sensationally quit the ITV show after receiving 41,000 Ofcom complaints for denying that Meghan Markle previously considered suicide.

Rachel was allegedly overheard discussing his exit after the news broke on Tuesday.

A source said: ‘Rachel was in great spirits when she left filming yesterday and was heard saying she would be going home to celebrate the news Piers had left.

‘It seems, like many people, she disagreed with his Meghan Markle comments.’

The source added: ‘She also said she would love to do his job. She said there was no doubt about it!’

Viewers have begun speculating who could replace Piers on the show, with Ranvir Singh stepping in at the last moment for Wednesday’s show.

Ben Shephard is currently the bookies’ favourite, with the likes of Alex Beresford, Jeremy Vine and Richard Madeley also in the mix.

When Lorraine Kelly was asked who she thinks will replace Piers, Lorraine joked that Ben was probably already in bed to step in for the next morning’s broadcast.

‘I think Ben Shephard is already having his coco and putting his jammies on.’

As well as co-presenting Countdown, Rachel is known for competing on Strictly Come Dancing and presenting The Gadget Show and It’s Not Rocket Science.

Meanwhile, Piers is standing by his comments about Meghan made after her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey and has hinted that he’ll return to TV in some form soon.
