While Gemma Owen has been preparing to come face to face with her ex-boyfriend Jacques O’Neill tonight, dad Michael Owen has been spending quality time with his youngest daughter.

The former England footballer looked proud as punch as he stood next to his daughter Jess, 12, who was sat upon her horse Jigsaw.

Michael shared the adorable photo just hours before Sunday night’s Love Island, which will see Gemma reunite with former flame Jacques.

‘While the eldest is away, my youngest is progressing well on her pride and joy, Jigsaw. Well done @jess_0wen,’ he captioned the sweet picture.

Love Island fans are convinced Gemma’s ex Jacques will finally reveal that she is the daughter of football legend Michael now that he’s in the Majorcan villa.

Gemma, 19, has been trying hard not to tell her fellow contestants who her dad is, although has come close to dropping the ball several times.

The singleton has also faced much criticism since Love Island series six got underway earlier this month, with many saying she is too young to appear on a reality dating programme after being paired up with 27-year-old David Sancilmenti.

However, despite the criticism, dad Michael has defended his daughter, calling her ‘mature’ and flagging that he was in the public eye at a younger age during his football career.

He shared: ‘She has had two years more than I had to get ready for life in the public eye.

‘Also, she’s a mature 19. She’s a bit like me in that regard. I was playing for Liverpool when I was 17, and having to make friends with 23, 24, 25-year-olds.

‘The bottom line is, she’s an adult and I have to trust her to make sensible decisions,’ he told The Daily Mail.

Love Island airs tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
